Simmy delivers a bouquet to an old lady in Ambleside, and is once again dragged into a murky situation that is dangerous and bewildering. DI Moxon, local police detective, finds himself as concerned for Simmy's safety as he is to find the killer.

Valentine's Day proves to be overwhelming for several reasons. Simmy's workload is suddenly all-consuming, with some disconcerting reactions to the flowers she delivers. An old friend turns up, bringing confusion with her, just as a murder victim is discovered in Coniston.
